VoiceExchange is a group of singers and improvisers based in Washington, D.C. which spontaneously creates improvised choral pieces, leads community-singing events, and delivers a cappella performances that are highly audience-interactive. The group is mostly composed of people who came together at Bobby McFerrin’s Circlesongs workshops in 2011 and 2012, augmented by members of D.C. improv community.
VoiceExchange’s mission is to release your natural ability to spontaneously create music, and to provide a ready group of people to bring spontaneously created compositions into existence; and, by doing so, to bring joy and happiness into the lives of participants and listeners.
VoiceExchange believes in the musical creativity inherent in all individuals, the importance of singing cooperatively in community, the value of getting in touch with your musical gifts and expanding them, and the importance of listening to yourself in the context of others.
VoiceExchange sings to fight despair, depression, inhibiting self-consciousness, societal pressure to draw inside the lines, and bad music everywhere.
VoiceExchange is available in D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia to lead corporate team-building exercises, lead your congregation or community group in song, or for a unique live performance experience. Email Info@VoiceExchange.org.
